Lauterbrunan Switzerland day 2 and 3

After sleeping in a real bed, getting out of bed in the morning proved quite difficult. Once we finally made it out of the room, we met the girls, got some coffee, and rented our gear for the climb. We took a remarkable tram ride up the cliff side, which also gave us our first glimpse of the Eiger rising out of the clouds in the distance. The tram dropped us in murren, and from there it was a quick stroll to the start of the via ferra. With otter and I working as the unofficial guides, we gave everyone else a crash course in the art of not falling. The start of the trail was steep, but set into the woods so the drop seemed less formidable. Without warning, however, we found ourselves standing on ladder rungs 1200' up the cliff face.

The trail continued on, crossing wire bridges, more ladder rungs, and even a 200' long narrow suspension bridge. The trail dropped us at the mountain hostel in grimmelwald, where the girls treated us to fondue and beer as payment for keeping them alive. We relaxed there for several hours, slackling, yoga, and enjoying good conversation.

We eventually made the walk back to lauterbrunan, passing countless mountain streams and views of the mountains, it really is paradise here.

Pesto pasta for dinner, then went out to the bar for a bit with all the Australians we met. Back to the hostel after that for a well deserved sleep.

Everyone woke up felling under the weather, it turns out that our immune systems couldn't keep up with the constant activity and almost non-existent diet. The unanimous group decision was a day off, so we spent the day relaxing around the hostel, reading, eating, and napping. Eventually we got a bit restless, so otter went for a long run while I wandered around town. Around this time the higher peaks cleared up giving us an unbelievable view.

Eventually we decided it was time for bed, so we made our way up the hillside to the campsite we had picked out for the night, which also provided another fantastic view of the valley.

Off to Munich tomorrow!
